The $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill expected to clear the House Wednesday also includes around $130 billion in aid to school districts to help them reopen during the coronavirus pandemic.
And $2.6 billion of that could be headed to New Jersey schools.
The funds could be go for improving ventilation, reducing class sizes, adding staff and buying personal protective equipment, among other purposes.
“The American Rescue Plan will help our economy build back better, which includes getting students back in the classroom by ensuring schools receive the resources they need to safely open and operate,” said Rep. Donald Norcross, D-1st Dist., a member of the House Education and Labor Committee.
