IFCN Education Fellowships

The International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) is pleased to announce the availability of education fellowships that will be awarded to support training in clinical neurophysiology for applicants without access to similar training in their home country.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Member of an IFCN member society for at least one year. Check the list of IFCN affiliated societies in the website www.ifcn.info/chapters.asp
    OR
    Member of the International Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ICNS) for at least one year for those from countries without an affiliated member society.
  2. Applicants with a minimum of 2 years in core medical training (e.g. neurology, rehabilitation medicine, clinical neurophysiology) are preferred.
  3. Intent to return to their country after the period of fellowship.
  4. There are no age limits.
  5. Scope and period of training:
    1. Any field of clinical neurophysiology including general or specific/specialized techniques for which training opportunities are not available in their own country.
    2. Applicants are encouraged to identify training centers within their own IFCN Chapter geographic region when possible (check the IFCN chapters geographic regions on the website www.ifcn.info/chapters.asp).
    3. The minimum duration of training is 1 month with a maximum 6 months.
  6. Candidates must contact the education mentor themselves and obtain permission for the fellowship. (The mentor will be required to complete section III of the application form).
  7. Candidates awarded in previous years are not allowed to apply for another fellowship.

The IFCN Education Committee will make the selection of successful candidates. Applicants will be informed of the decision by 1 July 2024.

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following obligations:

  • Negotiate the exact dates of the fellowship with the host institution and check on any host country and institution restrictions. The fellowship should be started within one year of receiving the award. The host institution cannot be changed.
  • Applicants must check all the possible impediments that can prevent them from being in the hosting institution in the proposed period (VISA, commercial embargoes, health restrictions, etc.) before application.
  • It is expected that the fellowship will be completed without interruption, but if special circumstances arise, exceptions will be considered for approval by IFCN Executive Committee.
  • The fellowship winner must submit a mid-term progress report and one at the end of the fellowship, to the IFCN Secretariat.
  • The successful applicant is expected to provide future plans of how they will contribute to IFCN and their field.
  • The successful applicant agrees to assist and allow promotion of IFCN and the award through various media outlets, including social media.

  1. Evidence of relevant medical training
  2. Copy of passport or other government issued ID
  3. Letter of recommendation from the home institution
  4. Letter of acceptance from the host institution supervisor/mentor
  5. Certificate of membership in an IFCN member society, or in the International Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ICNS) for those from countries without an affiliated society.

IFCN Research Fellowship

The International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) is pleased to announce the availability of research fellowships that will be awarded to support research in clinical neurophysiology for applicants without access to high-quality research experience or specialised research methodology or technique in their home country. It is expected that the experience gained will be of significant impact in their home country.

The maximum award for the fellowship will be $25,000 for a one-year fellowship, with proportionately less for shorter fellowships.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Member of an IFCN member society or the International Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ICNS) for members from non-affiliated countries
  2. Applicants with a minimum of 2 years in core medical training and intend a career in clinical neurophysiology are preferred
  3. Intent to return to their country after the period of fellowship
  4. There are no age limits
  5. Previous winners are ineligible to apply
  6. Applicants must check all possible VISA requirements prior to applying
  7. The fellowship must be at the institution that they applied to without any changes
  8. The fellowship must start within one year of receiving the award
  9. Candidates must contact the proposed supervisor/s themselves and obtain permission for the fellowship (The supervisor will be required to complete section III of the application form)

Scope and period of training:

  1. Any field of clinical neurophysiology including general or specific/specialised techniques 
  2. High quality research projects that are likely to result in peer-reviewed publication/s; preferably in one of the IFCN Journals
  3. IFCN should be acknowledged in any publication and report
  4. The minimum duration of research training is 3 months with a maximum of 1 year

Applicants will be notified of the decision by 1 July 2024.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to fulfill the following obligations:

  • Negotiate the exact dates of the fellowship with the host institution and check any host country and institution restrictions. The fellowship should be started within one year of receiving the award. The host institution cannot be changed.
  • It is expected that the fellowship will be completed without interruption, but if special circumstances arise, exceptions will be considered.
  • The fellowship winner must submit a mid-term progress report and one at the end of the fellowship, to the IFCN Secretariat .
  • The successful applicant is expected to provide future plans of how they will contribute to IFCN and their field.
  • The successful applicant is expected to provide an article to one of the IFCN Journals and/or other contributions through various media outlets, including social media to promote clinical neurophysiology.
