The NSF CISE CAREER Proposal Writing Workshop is sponsored by the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE). This workshop is specifically designed to offer guidance and support to early-career faculty members preparing to submit proposals for the NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program award. The primary objectives of the workshop are to assist participants in crafting compelling research and education plans. Additionally, the event serves as a valuable platform for early-career faculty to engage with NSF program directors, fostering opportunities for networking and the exchange of ideas among peers within the CISE community.
The forthcoming 2024 CAREER workshop is scheduled to take place on April 29-30, 2024, at George Washington University. We have planned a comprehensive, full-day program featuring presentations and panel discussions led by NSF program directors, insights shared by previous CAREER Award recipients, and focused breakout sessions tailored to specific programs where attendees will have the opportunity to interact with CISE program directors in smaller groups.
This year’s workshop will be a hybrid event, allowing for flexibility in participation. While approximate 150 participants are invited to attend the workshop in person at George Washington University in Washington, DC, others can join the plenary sessions remotely via Zoom. We anticipate and encourage all invited participants to fully engage and attend the entire program on April 29. As in previous years, we are pleased to facilitate one-on-one meetings with program directors. In-person participants can schedule these meetings on the second day of the workshop, April 30. Remote participants will have the opportunity to meet with NSF program directors via Zoom throughout the rest of the week. The link to sign up for one-on-one meetings will only be sent to registered participants.
To support diversity and inclusivity, a number of travel fellowships will be awarded to junior faculty from historically black colleges or universities (HBCUs), minority-serving institutions (MSIs), women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and persons with disabilities.
