46-year-old woman mauled to death by dogs in north Alabama

A 46-year-old woman was killed and another was injured after being attacked by dogs this morning in Guntersville, authorities said.

Tracey Patterson Cornelius died in the attack on Jason Road, just off Alabama 79 South, said Sheriff Scott Walls in a news release. A second woman is being treated for serious injuries, authorities said.

"At this time, we have determined that (four) dogs have mauled two women," the sheriff said. "How it began is still under investigation."

Authorities were called to the scene after 8 a.m.

Marshall County Animal Control officers captured three of the four dogs. One dog, a white pit mix, remains at large, the sheriff said.
