Wild Rose School Board approves new school buses

Subhead

The Wild Rose School Board approved the purchase of two buses during a March 23 meeting. It is traditional for the district to rotate older buses out of commission as the school district replaces them with new when needed. The board has been discussing the possibility of acquiring electric buses, but had questions regarding them. The school district qualified for a grant for the bus purchase in the way of two buses if the district chose to try them. Grant money will pay for the two buses and two chargers. After the board was satisfied with all the information, they approved the purchase of the two buses and two chargers.

The board went on to approve Start College Now applications for Keyva Kingston, Abbie McCardell, and Sam Landwehr through Fox Velley Technical College.

The board was previously approached by a student athlete requesting the school district to co-op with the Appleton Area School District for the sport of lacrosse. After weighing all the information, the board approved the co-op, but the families are to be responsible for transporting the students to Appleton and back. District Administrator Craig Hayes stated the co-op would be “a great opportunity for students.”

The board considered reinstating the middle school wrestling program. Jason Anderson has been coaching the youth program with any students currently participating. Some of those students will be qualifying for the middle school-aged program next school year, but those students may have to co-op with other schools or drop out altogether. Parents can’t always transport them every day either. Parents of interested students have expressed interest in the idea of returning a middle school wrestling program to Wild Rose School. After considering all of the information, the board approved the request to re-establish the middle school wrestling program at Wild Rose.

The board also approved revisions made to the 2023-2024 school calendar, and a (personal day) leave of absence request from Cassi Huber.

The next board meetings will take place immediately following the 7 p.m. Scholarship Foundation meeting on Thursday, April 13, and at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27.
