Greenwood School Board Discusses Policy Updates and More

The Greenwood School Board discussed some policy updates.

The Board took consideration of student/co-curricular drug, alcohol, and nicotine testing policy, but it was tabled until the April board meeting. District Administrator Joe Green shared the projected high school bell schedule for the 2023-24 school year and presented some mascot logo options for the co-op teams.

Mr. Green also shared the minutes of instruction information for both buildings. At this time no make-up days are needed. Mr. Green then presented information on building elementary interior walls and shared the estimate that was prepared.

The Board also approved the replacement of the East Gym Bleachers with ESSER funds. The Board was also presented payoff information on the Unfunded Liability Loan, Elementary Entrance Loan and the QZAB loan.

The Board approved paying off the Unfunded Liability Loan for the amount of $239,040.53. The Board also approved the CESA #10 2023-24 Contract estimate and the 2023-24 CWETN Agreement.

The M3 Insurance Consortium update shared. WCA consortium decided to go with Aspirus Insurance. The Board also approved the professional staff hourly curriculum rate increase from $23/hour to $25/hour. The Board also approved policy update 32.1.

The Board also approved Daniel Madison and Daniel Stratton as volunteers. The Board also approved Hannah Elmer as the Assistant Track Coach, Margie Olson as the Long Term Special Education Assistant, Paige Lindner as the Assistant Softball Coach, and Kevin Lucas as the Assistant Baseball Coach.

The Board also approved the Book & Reel Club field trip to the Teen Lit Con event in Mendota, MN, on April 29th; approved the FBLA field trip to the State Leadership Conference in Green Bay, on April 17th-18th; and approved the FFA EDGE and Connect Conferences field trip in Stevens Point on March 23rd.

The Board also heard the CESA 10 Report regarding the hiring of the new director and meeting with Jamie Gardner and Deanna Heimann. They also heard a report on the Joint Board Committee meeting with Loyal regarding an update on class offerings, logo, activities, etc. They’re working to offer more opportunities in many areas.

Elementary Principal Shane Lilly reported on:

  • Literacy Night held on March 9th;
  • The Bookfair;
  • Club Choice Fundraiser;
  • Special Event Days;
  • Elementary grant for sensory products and flexible seating;
  • SEL (Social Emotional Learning);
  • 6th Grade transition;
  • Meeting with CESA mentor;
  • And March 1st PLC In-Service Day.

Athletic Director and Dean of Students Jenni Mayenschein shared information on:

  • The Chess Club that Ms. Glaser took to UW-Oshkosh to compete. The team finished 6th out of 120 teams, with Angel Anderson finishing 10th overall.

Finally, District Administrator Joe Green reported on:

  • The purchase of new defibrillators with Title IV grant funds;
  • Marshfield Clinic is discontinuing their athletic trainer service and they are looking at other trainer options.

Finally, Mr. Green presented Board Member Mark Shain with a plaque, certificate, and gift bag, commemorating his years of service to the Greenwood Board of Education.
