Wild Rose School Board approves Senior Class trip to Brewers game

Subhead

The Wild Rose School Board approved a Senior Class trip to a Milwaukee Brewers Game at the March 9 meeting.

The board also received a request from a student athlete to establish a co-op for the sport of lacrosse. The student has been participating in the Appleton Lacrosse Club since moving from Alabama where he had been playing and is now attending school at Wild Rose.

Included in District Administrator Craig Hayes’ report it was pointed out that the WIAA will be starting up boys’ lacrosse as a recognized WIAA sport in the spring of 2024. All Appleton Lacrosse Club high school athletes will be eligible for the WIAA team. The Wild Rose School District is considering the co-op option.

A couple of substitute teachers had spoken to the board about experiences they had with students using cellphones and being a distraction in the classrooms, and did not put them away when asked to do. Cellphone use policies have been acquired from other area schools and will be considered.

The board discussed the matter and members especially liked the consequences section of such a policy. The cellphone use/policy possibilities will be discussed further with staff members coming up with a viable solution.

The board also approved:

-The resignation of Matt Havlovitz as a middle school girls’ basketball coach.

-Leave of absence requests from Jaime Wagner, Emily Battenberg, and Karin Cartwright.

-The calendar for the 2023-24 school year.

-A proposal from the Village of Wild Rose for police liaison officer services for 15 hours/week.

-The CESA5 service contract for the 2023-24 school year.

A discussion was held on a groundbreaking ceremony to be held at the elementary school for the first week in April.

The next board meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 and immediately following the 7 p.m. Scholarship Foundation Meeting on Thursday, April 13.
