(WTAQ-WLUK) — Two Northeast Wisconsin schools are among more than a dozen across the state to receive fab lab grants.
A total of $493,000 from Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) will be used to supply fab labs in K-12 schools in Wisconsin.
Fab labs, short for fabrication laboratory, are a high-technology workshop equipped with computer-controlled manufacturing components such as 3D printers, laser engravers, computer numerical control (CNC) routers, and plasma cutters.
The grants will help train students in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) skills and prepare them for careers using advanced technologies.
Among the 18 school districts to receive grants, the Washington Island School District in Door County will receive $25,000 and the Weyauwega-Fremont School District in Waupaca County will receive $25,000.
