GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Green Bay Southwest High School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly renovated baseball and softball complex.

It’s a project that was granted through a referendum back in 2022. The renovations included new synthetic turf, dugouts, a concession stand, restrooms, and bleachers.

That referendum also granted roofing projects for the high school, as well as updated tennis courts and new asphalt outside the football stadium.

It didn’t take long for players to test it out as a game was scheduled to begin immediately after the ceremony.

“They love it. And again, our students reference this. We’re not having to wait for rain. We’re not having to rake. We’re not having to set up the bases. They can just get right on there and play. Even if it’s a little bit cold and there’s just a little bit of snow out there. You can still go out there and not worry about it. So, kids are loving it,” said Michael Whisler, the Green Bay Southwest High School principal.

This $48 million referendum project includes upgrades to not only Southwest High School but nine other schools in the area, according to Green Bay Area School District.
