ELK MOUND (WQOW) - An Elk Mound Middle School counselor has been recognized nationally.

Cindy Bourget and the school's counseling program as a whole has been designated as a recognized model program.

The State of Wisconsin, along with several states, use the American School Counselor Association, or ASCA, National Model. This is a way of developing programs that use data informed decision making to deliver improved student achievement.

This year, only two other Wisconsin schools received the Recognized ASCA Model Program designation.

"There are only six now-recognized ASCA models in the state and what that means for my school is that the community is so dedicated to making sure students are supported and successful, because without the community, without the staff, without the support of the administration and most of all without the hard work of the students, we wouldn't be here," Bourget said.

She went on to say that mental health is a broad topic, but with a goal like ensuring student success., it's also important to meet families where they're at. This leads to not just improving student health, but community health as well.
