RAYMOND, WI — Raymond School has a new superintendent after the school board voted unanimously to approve Michael Leach at the Board of Education meeting Monday, April 15.

Leach is currently the executive director and principal of Wisconsin Virtual Learning and Ozaukee High School.

School Board President Audrey Kostuch introduced Leach and noted the district faces challenges to work through together.

“We can figure things out together,” she said.

Raymond resident Dorrae Moonen told Leach after the meeting that he was her top choice after meeting him on April 8 during a community-wide meet-and-greet with him and two other candidates.

“I had you at the top of my list,” she told him. “Welcome to Raymond.”

Moonen told Racine County Eye she appreciated Leach’s answers to questions about operating in transparency and understanding that Raymond School is really at the center of the community.

Terms of Leach’s contract with Raymond School

Leach and the district signed a two-year contract that commences July 1, 2024, and expires on June 30, 2026. The contract will be renewed annually thereafter unless the board informs Leach otherwise by Jan. 30 of each year or Leach does the same by Feb. 28.

He will be paid a salary of $145,000, including benefits such as health insurance and contributions to Leach’s retirement plan.

Interim Superintendent James Heiden said during the meeting that the district had nine really strong candidates, and the process to narrow the field to three was done with due diligence.

“I really have to hand it to the board for their attention to this matter, knowing how critical it is to fill this position,” he said.

Heiden is contracted with Raymond School until June 30, 2024.
