LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- The La Crosse School Board is getting more specific with their proposed school consolidation referendum.
On Monday, the group voted to finalize a referendum that would consolidate Emerson and Spence Elementary Schools, as well as Hingtgen and State Road elementaries.
The referendum would close Emerson and Spence and build a new elementary school at the current Hogan administrative building site. It would also close Hintgen elementary and bring those students over to State Road.
There was no mention of Hintgen in previously proposed language for the referendum.
The board voted to add the phrase that says, "to accommodate the consolidation of State Road Elementary and Hintgen Elementary at the State Road site."
They said it will help voters understand that Hintgen will also be closing if the referendum passes.
"I think that in the interest of clarity for the voters and understanding this is what we're putting forward, what we think is a good plan to go forward and make an investment in our district. I think we need to be as clear about it as possible," said School Board Member Trevor Sprague.Â
Monday night's vote comes a week before three new school board members are sworn in.
Voters will decide on the referendum this November.
