The Elmbrook Board of Education approved a COVID-19 threshold plan that changes as COVID-19 rates change in the district.

According to the plan that was approved Tuesday, the district will gauge COVID-19 thresholds based on the percentage of students absent.
If there are less than five percent of students absent due to COVID-19, which is where the district is currently, then they will remain in a low threshold range.
It means currently, masks remain recommended, but optional in the middle and high schools.
In the elementary schools, parents can decide if they want to place their students in a classroom where masks are mandatory or in a classroom where masks are optional.
If there is a student absence rate of 6% to 9%, the district will move to a moderate COVID-19 threshold, which means masks will be mandatory for staff and still recommended for students.
If the student absence rate due to COVID-19 rises above 10%, then the board will hold an emergency meeting and will vote on whether or not to make masks mandatory for staff and students.
All volunteers and visitors are required to wear masks in all school buildings, unless community disease is less than five cases per day.
Parents lined up outside the building ahead of Tuesday's board meeting and argued both sides during public comment.
