CAROLINE: YES. AITDDRESSES WHAT TO DO THWI STUDENTS, STAFF, AND VISITORS IN THE SITUATIONS WHEN TRANSMISSION RATES MAY CHANGE. A TOC PITHAT PARENTS PASSIONATELY SHOWED THEIR SUPPORT FROM BOTH SIDES HERE TONIGHT. YOU CAN SEE THE VIDEO BEFORE THAT MEETING LINE OF PARENTS OUT , A THE DOOR STRETCHING THE LENGTH OF THE BUILDING TODAY. SOME ARGUING FOR STRONGER MITIGATON EFFORTS, OTHERS PUSHING FOR PERSONAL CHOICE. THE PLAN THE BOARD APPROVED TONIGHT KEEPS MASKS RECOMMENDED, BUT OPTIONAL IN THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOO.LS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WILL SO REMAIN MASKS OPTIONAL, BUT PARENTS HAVE AN ADDITIONAL OPTION TO CHOOSE A CLASSROOM WHERE MASKS ARE MANDATORY. THE CHANGE IS THAT THE NUMBER OF ABSENCES OR DAILY NUMBER OF NEW CASES, IF THEY RCHEA MODERATE OR HIGH LEVELS, MASKS COULD BECOME MANDATORY FOR STAFF D EVENTUALLY, STUDENTS. >> WE REALLY THINK THERE IS ONE CO MMON GOAL THAT WE ALL SHARE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND THAT IS KEEPING OUR SCHOOLS OPEN SUCCESSFULLY FOR IN PERSON LEARNING THIS YEAR. WE BELIEVE THAT’S ACHIEVAB BUT CURRENT POLICIES NEED TO BE TWEAKED TO ACHIEVE THAT GOAL. PERSONALLY, I THINK A DECISION TO CREATE MASK -OPTIONAL, MASS REQUIRED CLSRASM IS GOOD. HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN TWO WEEKS INTO THE SCHOOL AND THE BOARD IS TRYING TO MAKE DECISIONS THAT CONTRADICT THE WISHES OF HALF OF ITS STUDENT BODY. PATRICK: CAROLINE, WHAT ABTOU MASKS FOPAR RENTS AND VISITORS? CAROLINE: THAT WAS A STICKING POINT ARGUED AMONG BOARD MEMBERS TONIGHT. THEY VOTED TO MAKE MASKS

The Elmbrook Board of Education approved a COVID-19 threshold plan that changes as COVID-19 rates change in the district. Continuing Coverage: Coronavirus in WisconsinAccording to the plan that was approved Tuesday, the district will gauge COVID-19 thresholds based on the percentage of students absent. If there are less than five percent of students absent due to COVID-19, which is where the district is currently, then they will remain in a low threshold range. It means currently, masks remain recommended, but optional in the middle and high schools. In the elementary schools, parents can decide if they want to place their students in a classroom where masks are mandatory or in a classroom where masks are optional. If there is a student absence rate of 6% to 9%, the district will move to a moderate COVID-19 threshold, which means masks will be mandatory for staff and still recommended for students. If the student absence rate due to COVID-19 rises above 10%, then the board will hold an emergency meeting and will vote on whether or not to make masks mandatory for staff and students. All volunteers and visitors are required to wear masks in all school buildings, unless community disease is less than five cases per day. Parents lined up outside the building ahead of Tuesday's board meeting and argued both sides during public comment. According to the plan that was approved Tuesday, the district will gauge COVID-19 thresholds based on the percentage of students absent.
