KAUKAUNA (NBC 26) — Kaukauna High School hosted its second-annual Breaking Boundaries triathlon on Friday.

The adaptive triathlon was created to give high school students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in a day filled with activity, cheering and community support.

"Before we even started planning, the students came up to several teachers and were asking if they were going to hold the event," said Andrea Kioski, a speech language pathologist for Kaukauna School District. "So this is memorable, for not just our students in our special ed dept, but for our regular ed students as well. They love being a part of this event."

Participating students began with a Zumba event at the Heart of the Valley YMCA, followed by biking and running/walking events along the CE trail to the Bank of Kaukauna Stadium at Kaukauna High School.

"Family and friends have been super excited for this," Kioski said. "I had a student come up to me and was like 'I bought a new bike for the event!' So they are pumped to be here."

The event was provided at no cost to high school student athletes and peer mentors.
