Menasha, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Three Northeast Wisconsin school districts have announced transitions to virtual learning due to rises in COVID-19 cases and staffing limitations.
The Menasha School District, Freedom High School and Hilbert High School will move to virtual learning.
In a letter sent to parents Monday, Menasha Superintendent Chris VanderHeyden says the district will switch to virtual learning by the end of this week.
The decision is based on a growing number of COVID-19 cases in Menasha and a struggle to fill substitute teacher positions.
Virtual learning will begin Friday for students who were in-person or in cohorts A and B, according to VanderHeyden.
Freedom District Administrator Kevin Kilstofte said in a letter that most high school students will transition from face-to-face to virtual learning beginning Sept. 28 and continuing through Oct. 8.
High school students are scheduled to return to the classroom Oct. 12 unless they chose to remain home.
Hilbert High School will transition to virtual learning beginning Tuesday and continue through Oct. 2, according to an announcement sent to parents.
The decision affects only high school students and is due to staffing limitations, the announcement said.
The district anticipates returning to in-person learning Oct. 5.
