Interpreting the U.S. 250th at Your Site: Workshop Your Ideas- Live Webinar

  • Registration Closed

Overview:

The U.S. 250th anniversary, coming up in 2026, is a crucial opportunity to engage the public in the full sweep of American history. But for many history doers, this is easier said than done. How do you interpret the U.S. 250th at your site or organization, especially if you don’t have an obvious connection to the Revolutionary era? Even if you do have a clear tie to the Revolution, how do you make that history relevant to your audiences? This three-part webinar series will offer best practices in interpretive planning, connections to fieldwide themes for the 250th, and the chance to brainstorm your ideas with fellow practitioners. Attendees can choose to attend one session, two, or all three of the series.

Is your site or organization working on a project or program related to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States? Are you looking for inspiration or feedback? Join us for the final session of our three-part webinar series on interpretive planning for the 250th, where Sarah Pharaon, Principal at Dialogic Consulting, will offer interactive and innovative methods for nurturing your ideas and comparing and contrasting them with fellow history practitioners. She will be joined by special guest speaker Jennifer Ortiz, director of the Utah Division of State History.

Sarah Pharaon

Principal

Dialogic Consulting

As a facilitator and museum professional, Sarah believes that how we engage matters. She has spent her career training our nation's story tellers - museums, national parks, and cultural centers - to help their visitors better discuss immigration, mass incarceration, gun violence, climate change, slavery, and both reproductive and civil rights. And every once in a while, she works with penguins. Sarah’s projects help audiences grapple with perspectives outside of their own lived experience, using dialogue to connect communities across difference. Prior to launching her own firm, Dialogic Consulting, in 2020, Sarah was a Senior Director at the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, worked as the Director of Education at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and was the founding curator of the Arab American National Museum. She serves on the American Jewish Museums Advisory Council and is a member of the Emeritus Council of the American Association of State and Local History.

Jennifer Ortiz

Director, Utah Division of State History

Jennifer is director of the Utah Division of State History, Utah's public history organization which oversees the state's historic collections, public history programming, and the Museum of Utah, the state's first state history museum to be opened in 2026. The Peoples of Utah Revisited is the agency's Utah250 and America250 effort to widen the lens of Utah's history and help amplify the undertold history of the last fifty years of the state.
